Morning Preschool Tentative Schedule:

(2024-2025 Morning Preschool 8:30-12:00)

3-6 Years Old (mixed age classroom)

8:30 - 9:00 am

Arrival/Greeting

Morning gathering. We talk about what the day will be like, including introducing projects we will be doing that day and telling the children if they have any one-on-one activities they must do with the teachers that day.

9:00-9:30 am

Learning Centers

The children can choose activities in the areas throughout the classroom: art, play dough/clay, easel, tactile table, fine motor table (puzzles, small motor activities), blocks, dramatic play area, reading, writing area or the science/light table.

9:30-10:15 am

English Learning/Specials (Teacher Lead/Children Initiated)

The teachers take a small group of children each for an activity such as show and tell, bingo and listening lotto games, or drawing a picture for their journal.  We sing together, read a book, and sometimes do a learning activity such as charting the weather, learning songs, writing down the rhyming words and characters we can hear in a story, or writing down all the sounds of a letter we can hear in a story.

10:15-11:00 am

Chinese Learning/ Specials  (Teacher Lead/Children Initiated)

We sing together, read a book, and sometimes do a learning activity such as charting the weather, learning Chinese songs, festive holidays, culture, cooking and writing down the characters that associate in a story.

11:00 am-11:30 pm

Clean Up/Snack Time

After we clean up, the children wash their hands and sit together at the tables with the adults.  The children serve themselves food and pass the bowls around the table.

11:30 pm - 12:00 pm

Journal Writing/Reading Group

Children work on their journal page for specific interests and enjoy free reading time with friends and teacher(s).

12:00 -12:30 pm

Outdoor/ Gross Motor Time

We try to go outside every day.  If we do not go outside, we have access to the church fellowship hall where we will do a gross motor activity such as parachute, beanbags or games for physical activities.

Each school year, we assess every child for:

-Cognitive skills: recognizing letters, numbers, shapes, colors

-Fine motor skills: cutting, writing, drawing

-Language skills: clear speech, sequencing a story, basic communication skills

-Gross motor skills: hopping, balancing, climbing

-Social/emotional skills: interaction with peers, conflict resolution, self control

We have parent teacher conferences once per year to determine educational and social goals for each individual child.
